Logan is an upcoming American superhero film featuring the Marvel Comics character Wolverine, produced by Marvel Entertainment, TSG Entertainment and The Donners' Company, and distributed by 20th Century Fox.[2][3] It is intended to be the tenth installment in the X-Men film series, as well as the third and final Wolverine solo film following X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009) and The Wolverine (2013).[4][5] The film takes inspiration from "Old Man Logan" by Mark Millar and Steve McNiven, which follows a past-his-prime Logan undertaking a final adventure in the post-apocalyptic future.[6][7][8]

The film is directed by James Mangold, who co-wrote the screenplay with Michael Green and Scott Frank, from a story by David James Kelly and Mangold.[9] Hugh Jackman stars as Logan in what is intended to be his final portrayal of the character after having played the role for 17 years, with Patrick Stewart co-starring as Charles Xavier.[10] Richard E. Grant, Boyd Holbrook, Stephen Merchant, Dafne Keen, Eriq La Salle, Elise Neal and Elizabeth Rodriguez are all featured in supporting roles.[11][12] Principal photography began in Louisiana on May 2, 2016 and ended on August 19th, 2016 in New Mexico.[13][14][15] The locations used for Logan were mainly Louisiana, New Mexico, and Mississippi.[16][17][18]

Logan is scheduled to be released on March 3, 2017 in the United States in IMAX formats.[19]

Synopsis
Years after the epilogue of X-Men: Days of Future Past, some of the last mutants, an aging Logan—whose healing factor is starting to fail—and Charles Xavier, protect a young girl named Laura who is very similar to Logan, and is being hunted by sinister forces.[20]

Cast
Hugh Jackman as Logan / Wolverine
A physically enhanced mutant with accelerated healing, who's dealing with his age and ailment.[21][20] Mangold describes Logan as "old", as well as stating, "it’s clear his abilities aren't what they once were",[22] as well as one of Charles Xavier's carers, alongside Caliban.[22] Mangold spoke of Logan's age influencing his regenerative capabilities, to which he states may no longer produce soft skin,[23] "[...] So we imagined he heals quickly, still, but it leaves a scar. The simple idea was that his body would start to get a little more ravaged with a kind of tattooing of past battles, lacerations that remain of previous conflicts."[24] Jackman indicated that he believed he was nearing the end of his run as Wolverine, so there was speculation early on that his next film could be his last.[25] On the second page of screenplay, Mangold spoke of Logan as "[...] he's older now and it’s clear his abilities aren’t what they once were. He’s fading on the inside and his diminished healing factor keeps him in a constant state of chronic pain — hence booze as a painkiller."[26][27] Jackman requested for fan input on the direction Wolverine's story should go in the next film, while seeming to confirm that the project would serve as his farewell to Logan.[28] To prepare for his role, Jackman ate a minimum of six meals per day, when working with trainer Mike Ryan.[29] Ryan stated that an average workout session for Jackman lasts up to three hours, beginning at 4:00 a.m.[30] Jackman stated, "[...] it's going to be very different. Very different in tone and hopefully different to anything we’ve done."[31] Jackman explained that comedian Jerry Seinfeld was indirectly responsible for his decision to stop playing Logan after 17 years, with Jackman stating, "I was having a chat with [Seinfeld] about a year ago [...] he was talking about why he finished Seinfeld [...] He said he'd always had this feeling and belief that you never know when either your energy or the audience's energy is going to dip over into people [saying] 'Oh, please go.'"[32] Jackman accepted a pay reduction to ensure that the film would be produced to receive an R-rating.[33]
Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier / Professor X
A mutant who is the world's most powerful telepath, and founder and former leader of the X-Men.[34][35] Charles' telepathic abilities have become unstable, and at times he doesn't even remember who Logan is.[22] During the events of Logan, Xavier is cared for by Logan and Caliban.[36] On August 13, 2015, Stewart, in an interview with Collider.com, expressed intrigue at the possibility of an Old Man Logan story, with him stating, "[...] The idea of an old Wolverine, I'm really looking forward to [Jackman] getting old [...]".[37][38] When asked of rumors about his involvement in Mangold's film he remarked "I think what you say is true. There is a project in development. I understand that Professor Xavier will be making more than an appearance, however, and that intrigues me."[39] Prior to filming Logan, Stewart spoke of a different version of the character, "He's a terrific character, but I am looking forward - if what I've been told is true - to a different version of Charles. We shall see."[40] On the character of Xavier, Mangold mentions the themes of ageing and loneliness, to which he further explains,[41] "We've seen these characters in action, saving the universe. But what happens when you're in retirement and that career is over?[42] The really interesting thing to me, or a place to dig that hadn't been dug, was the idea of mutants when they're no longer useful to the world, or even sure if they can do what they used to do. Their powers are diminished like all of ours are by age."[20] Speaking of his appearance in Mangold's film, Stewart remarked that "[...] this is probably the end of this franchise for me. But the thing about science fiction and fantasy is that you can never, ever say it's the end, it's over."[43]
Richard E. Grant as Zander Rice
Surgical head of the project Transigen.[44]
Boyd Holbrook as Donald Pierce
Transigen's relentless, calculating and intense head of security, and leader of the Reavers.[44][45][46] On the character of Pierce, Holbrook stated, "He's an innovative engineer and he's a big fan of Wolverine. He just wants to hang out with him [...] There's a lot of surprising stuff in it.[47] Mangold spoke very highly of Holbrook's acting talents, and speaking as to his casting decision, Mangold remarked, "He’s a fabulous actor. He's also, to me, in terms of playing an antagonist, he's got humour."[20]
Stephen Merchant as Caliban
A mutant who can sense and track other mutants, who is helping Logan take care of Xavier.[22] On Merchant taking the role, Mangold mentioned, "I'm always interested to find the thing that looks most interesting on the actors. Stephen is a huge man. One of the things that is so wonderful filming with him for a character like this is that he’s a good six inches taller than Logan, and huge over Patrick. The little kid in the movie would come up to basically his knee. So there's a wonderful sense of scale – but he has heart too."[20] Mangold concluded by stating, "So that was a wonderful energy to enter the movie, and someone who instead of turning things into their own energy kind of joined ours."[20] Caliban was previously portrayed by Tómas Lemarquis in X-Men: Apocalypse.[48]
Dafne Keen as Laura[N 1]
A mysterious young girl who is "very much" like Logan.[44] On whether Keen's character is in fact X-23, the female clone of Logan, Mangold stated, "I'm not here today to confirm or deny anything. I think it's great that everyone's speculating and I think it reveals how smart the audience is, many of the fans, about these characters. I don’t think they’re on the wrong track."[20] On Keen's portrayal of Laura, Mangold mentioned, "If anyone could steal a movie from [Jackman], it would be Dafne. She carries, all the time, a slight strangeness."[50] Sienna Novikov served as Keen's stunt double.[51][52]
Additionally, Eriq La Salle, Elise Neal and Elizabeth Rodriguez have been cast in unidentified supporting roles.[53][54][55] Doris Morgado appears as Maria.[56] In the commentary to X-Men: Apocalypse, director Bryan Singer indicated that his film's post-credits scene would directly connect with the on-screen debut of X-Men antagonist Mister Sinister in Logan.[57][58][59][60][61]

Production
Development
"Hugh and I have been talking about what we would do since we were working on the last one, and for both of us it was this requirement that, to be even interested in doing it, we had to free ourselves from some assumptions that had existed in the past, and be able to change the tone a bit. Not merely to change for change’s sake, but also to make something that’s speaking to the culture now, that’s not just the same style — how many times can they save the world in one way or another? How can we construct a story that’s built more on character and character issues, in a way as if it almost wasn’t a superhero movie, yet it features their powers and struggles and themes?"

— James Mangold, on the development and approach of Logan[62]
On November 5, 2013, Deadline.com reported that 20th Century Fox had begun negotiations for another solo film starring Wolverine, with James Mangold in negotiations to write the treatment for the film, and Lauren Shuler Donner returning to produce under The Donners' Company.[63][64][65][66] On November 13, 2013, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Hugh Jackman neither confirmed nor denied whether he had officially signed on to reprise Logan in another film,[67][68] though Jackman insisted that his lapsing contract with Fox, which reportedly will need to be renegotiated after X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014),[69] doesn't mean he'll leave the franchise, as he's been working movie-by-movie since X2 (2003).[70] He also stated, "I do want to do it with Jim and with [producer] Lauren Shuler-Donner because we had such a great experience. I'm really proud of The Wolverine (2013)."[71] On November 19, 2013, in an interview with Collider.com, James Mangold announced that the pre-production aspect of the film hasn't begun as of yet, nor the writing process, though he furthered this by stating, "[...] I would say I’m not there yet. But I have taken finger to key. Let’s say that. There’s been typing. And ideas. And talking amongst all the principles."[72]

Shortly after the release of The Wolverine, on November 19, 2013, Mangold spoke of a potential sequel with the aim of not converting it into a "Will the world survive?" film, while also stressing "[...] not to make the same picture again."[73][74] Mangold also mentioned some of the potential development structure that he may employ, while also addressing issues of character-centricity,[75] "I think the key thing for me, you heard me talking about how I construct scripts, is just figuring out the key relationships and just what it’s about, what theme the whole thing is going to be about. I've got a good angle on it, but I'm not ready to talk about it yet!"[76] On December 5, 2013, Jackman was interviewed by Vanity Fair wherein he spoke of nearing the end of his tenure as the character, while stating the film being in the very early stages of development.[77] Jackman also revealed that Mangold and he had begun speaking of potential ideas, with him adding, "[...] Jim Mangold and I were literally on the phone last night talking about ideas but there is no script and no writer yet so it’s a way off."[78]

On March 16, 2014, it was reported that Mangold will begin to shooting after Bryan Singer's X-Men: Apocalypse (2016), with the tentative plan to shoot it back-to-back,[79][80] with producer Hutch Parker stating, "[...] the goal will be X:Men: Apocalypse for 2016, which means at the latest [filming begins] in summer 2015, and then the same thing with Wolverine, either before or after, but based on the script."[81] On March 20, 2014, 20th Century Fox set the film for a release of March 3, 2017.[82][83] Following the announcement by 20th Century Fox, The Hollywood Reporter had revealed that James Mangold was boarding the project as director.[84] On March 21, 2014, Deadline.com had revealed that Hugh Jackman will be reprising his signature role,[85] while 20th Century Fox was confirmed to have hired David James Kelly to pen the screenplay for Mangold's as-yet unnamed piece.[86] On April 30, 2014, Jackman was interviewed by SFX Magazine, wherein he spoke about his ambitious feelings for the character of Logan, while mentioning that they can go further than what they achieved in The Wolverine.[87] Jackman also expressed his feelings of finality with portraying the character of Logan,[88] while in terms of storyline, he explained that nothing had been decided as of yet.[89] Jackman concluded by highlighting the success of the script development will decide whether or Jackman returns at all,[90] "I haven't signed on signed on. I'm genuinely at that point where unless it's better than the last one I'm not going to do it. I think it has to be better. I can still see where we can improve on the last one. I love the intimacy of that story, I liked the small stuff, I liked that it was a little unexpected."[91]

In an interview with The Oregonian, on February 6, 2015, Patrick Stewart spoke of discussions for the third Wolverine film to centre around a team-up between Jackman's Wolverine and himself as Charles Xavier,[92][93] with Stewart stating to Marc Mohan that, "[...] we have been talking about a Wolverine movie, which would team Hugh Jackman and myself together [...] That would be a very different sort of X-Men from the four movies that I've already done."[94][95] On April 24, 2015, The Wrap reported that Michael Green had taken over screenwriting duties, with Mangold still actively overseeing the script development process.[96] On September 24, 2015, in an interview with Collider.com, Jackman spoke of the writers being halfway through the script and that the story will delve into the relationship between Wolverine and Professor X,[97] to which he expanded, "I think it's a really important relationship but I want to see signs of that quasi-father/son sort of relationship that has not been seen before, and sides of particularly Professor X that have not been seen before."[98][99] Jackman spoke of Mangold's plan being to start filming next year, though expressed uncertainty as to the filming locations.[100] On January 26, 2016, Jackman confirmed that Mangold had a full screenplay, albeit it's not complete.[101] On September 25, 2015, Mark Millar, creative consultant for Fox, confirmed Mangold's film will be a loose adaptation of the Old Man Logan story, something which was hinted at earlier by Jackman.[102]

On February 29, 2016, Liev Schreiber had expressed interest in returning to portray Victor Creed, with Jackman himself mentioning Mangold's vision to Schreiber.[103][104][105][106] On April 8, 2016, The Hollywood Reporter officially reported, after final negotiations took place, that Mangold had chosen actor Boyd Holbrook to portray the main antagonist of the piece,[107][108][109] with Variety stating that "Holbrook would portray the chief of security for a global corporation pursuing Jackman's Wolverine character."[110][111] On April 26, 2016, The Hollywood Reporter officially reported that Richard E. Grant was revealed to have been cast as an as-of-yet unnamed villainous mad scientist.[112][113] On April 27, 2016, Deadline.com reported that Stephen Merchant was cast in an unspecified role.[114][115][116][117][118] On May 4, 2016, Variety officially reported that Eriq Lasalle was cast as an as-of-yet unnamed role, as well as Elise Neal on May 5, 2016.[119][120] On May 9, 2016, producer Simon Kinberg, in an interview with Collider's Steve Weintraub, revealed that filming had already begun, while confirming that it will be R-rated, while suggesting the setting and tonality,[121] to which he stated, "It takes place in the future, and as you and others have reported, it is an R-rated movie. It's violent, it’s kind of like a western in its tone. It’s just a very cool, different film."[122][123] On May 18, 2016, TheWrap officially reported that Elizabeth Rodriguez was in negotiations to star in Mangold's film, with them stating that Rodriguez is "[...] making a deal for a small but key role [...]".[124][125]

I.T. is a 2016 thriller film directed by John Moore and written by Dan Kay and William Wisher. It stars Pierce Brosnan, James Frecheville, Anna Friel, Stefanie Scott and Michael Nyqvist. The film is produced by David T. Friendly and Beau St. Clair, who was Brosnan's producing partner at the Irish DreamTime production company before she died. The film came out on September 23, 2016 with a limited release and video on demand.

Plot
Mike Regan is a self-made aviation tycoon who lives in a state-of-the-art smart home full of modern technologies with his wife Rose, and 17-year-old daughter Kaitlyn. Mike is developing an app called "Omni Jet" which is designed to fly at a higher altitude and will be effective upon the approval of Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

At the company, he meets the 28-year-old I.T. consultant, Ed Porter, and he calls Porter to fix the WiFi signal which his daughter complains is slow. Porter claims that he also worked at the NSA and joins the military exercise in Kandahar. Porter meets Kaitlyn and starts a relationship with her through social media. Mike fires Porter from work after Kaitlyn invites him in the house; although Kaitlyn describes Porter as being nice, Mike tells her that she is too young to have a boyfriend. Devastated, Porter begins to remotely access all the private sectors, including Mike's house, as he unknowingly monitors them through the security cameras and devices all over the house. He even spies and records Kaitlyn, unknown to her, masturbating in the shower room. One day, Porter takes full control of the house, which leaves the family terrified, and using a spoof email sends Rose the mammogram results saying that she tested positive for breast cancer. Rose is devastated, but the truth is her test results were negative according to her attending physician. After Mike realizes that Porter had done it, he attacks Porter and threatens to kill him if he does not stay away from his family.

Porter then uploads the video of Kaitlyn masturbating, immediately catching the attention of her schoolmates, leaving Kaitlyn embarrassed. Kaitlyn blames her father for the technology installed in the house. Angered, Mike drives on his way to Porter but he is also being monitored by Porter, who mockingly phones him through the car navigation system and sends the video of his daughter masturbating. Porter then remotely activates the car's brake system, hitting a nearby stalled truck and destroying the car.

Mike requests help from I.T. expert Henrik. Henrik states that Mike must destroy all the smart technology in the house and delete all of the emails, bank accounts, and computer files. Henrik explains that Porter's real name is Richard Edward Portman and his father committed suicide when he was six years old. He also reveals that he never worked in the NSA, as he claimed, and the photo of him with the soldiers in Kandahar was fake. In order to take evidence from the apartment where Porter lives, Henrik makes a diversion by stealing a phone from a coffee shop waitress, who is Porter's obsessed girlfriend, and texts Porter to come to the coffee shop. While Porter's gone, Mike manages to take the thumb drives containing the evidence and escapes just as Porter realizes it is a diversion. Realizing that the masked-man he saw in his apartment is Mike, he frames him for assault.

After getting out of the precinct, Mike goes back to his home where Kaitlyn and Rose are tied up and gagged by Porter and being held at gunpoint. A struggle ensues; Porter shoots out a window and Mike punches Porter who hits his head, and lays dying as Mike holds the gun to his chest, but Rose begs Mike not to kill Porter. Some time later, the employees applaud Mike and his family for successfully developing the app and their house is restored.
